Content development and production of online training materials for graduate induction eLearning program.

Brief

BHP Billiton (BHPB) is the world’s largest mining organisation and in FY2008 had 41,732 employees working in over 25 countries and in more than 100 operations worldwide. A significant part of BHP Billiton’s approach is to annually select and retain university graduates. Their Leadership Model is designed to foster behaviours that lead to superior performance and allow each employee to start the day with a sense of purpose and end it with a sense of accomplishment. With high numbers of graduates commencing employment every year, the brief was to generate effective online content capable of providing newcomers with a clear perspective of BHP Billiton’s structure, business operations, policies and procedures.

Solution

A pilot resulted in Cubic Consulting being selected as the content development provider. Subject matter expertise was provided by BHP Billiton including templates, storyboards, graphics, audio and development standards. Resources were uploaded by BHPB to their eRoom for subsequent utilisation by our eLearning team. Using Adobe Captivate eLearning modules were created covering 11 subject areas.

Results

Leveraging the effectiveness, speed of deployment and development capability, enabled rapid development of content according to strict guidelines established by BHPB. Graduates were able to remotely logon to a secure website and undertake their initial Induction training, significantly reducing previous timeframes required to transfer knowledge to a diverse and globally geographically dispersed audience.
