Workplace Authority

What's the Deal with Workplace Agreements? An engaging, interactive communications project for the Australian Government.

Brief

Cubic Consulting was engaged to develop a communication capability aimed at informing young people of their legal rights under the Governments Work Choices legislation. Paramount to the program was an ability to ‘connect’ with the target audience and provide an appropriate theme and design capable of effectively communicating what could become a complex area. Accessibility issues for the visual and hearing impaired was a key consideration in choosing the supplier.

Solution

The solution involved development of a custom mini-site built in Flash, with main content displayed within a pop-up window launched from a splash page. The program was built around the concept of six video scenarios introduced by ‘Luke’ who interviews various young people in the street who relate their experiences of the Work Choices law to him. Users are given the choice to choose how the interviewee should respond. Topics include: The Fairness Test, Entitlements, Flexibility, Using bargaining agents. All talent selection, audio and filming was undertaken by our eLearning team. Accessiblity was addressed through screen reader testing (JAWS), Closed captioning and the ability to increase the screen size. Various high and low bandwidth optimized versions were also available to either view or download to the users computers.

Results

The program underwent rigorous testing by a select panel of the target audience with feedback and suggestions implemented before the program was officially launched by the Minister for Workplace Relations.  Cubic also undertook the design of all the supporting material including; mouse pads, stickers, postcards, posters, tri-fold & single fold leaflets and exhibition banner bugs.
